Government : Xartas is a hereditary monarchy whose ruler traditionally bears the title of Jarl rather than King.
Climate : Temperate
Distinguishing Feature : Situated on the continent of Sudalya, Xartas is a kingdom whose identity is deeply tied to the sea. Many of the great captains, navigators, and explorers who left their mark on Wontania's maritime history hailed from these lands.
Born of intense volcanic activity, the landscape is dominated by numerous volcanoes, some of which are still active. This volcanic character is reflected in Xartasian architecture as well. The cities, particularly the capital, are built of basalt, giving them their characteristic black hue.
Major Locations :
Zeltarsis : It is the capital of the kingdom and a major seaport. Its population is relatively cosmopolitan, and it is not uncommon to encounter dwarves from Telmore, in the Shattered Archipelago off the eastern coast of Xartas.
Important Figures :
Jarl Tornek : Young Jarl and ruler of Xartas. As he has not yet chosen a wife, he has attracted the attention of many young noblewomen, all eager to win his heart. For now, however, none has yet succeeded in becoming his Jarline.
Admiral Carltaf : Admiral Carltaf became a true legend among the Xartasians. He earned particular renown for winning numerous naval battles during the Great War and nearly eradicating piracy from the kingdom’s waters.
Since his death several years ago, however, pirates have gradually returned, to the point that they once again pose a threat to Xartas’s coasts and sea routes.
Carlensi de Vix : Carlensi de Vix is Xartas’s greatest explorer. He is credited in particular with the discovery of the Lost Isles, located in the Unexplored Regions, and with being the first person to circumnavigate the continent of Sudalya by sea in less than a year.
Several decades ago, he set out to explore the Unexplored Regions beyond the Lost Isles and never returned.
